Fremantle skippers all go to Woodman Point Boat Ramp, in Coogee and the Leeuwin Boat Ramp in East Fremantle, where Perth Boat School has 3 local trainers that accommodate students’ needs all year round, 7 days a week.
Doing your skipper’s ticket in Fremantle can be a bit tricky. If you’re in the river there can be big currents making it difficult for new skippers, and the harbour can get fairly busy which isn’t great for people who may be a little nervous on the day.
We do it all at the shed opposite the Woodman Point Boat Ramp, in Coogee. You can grab a coffee at the Woodies cafe next door before heading in for the theory component. We keep the theory as quick and easy as possible, leaving more time to spend on the water. Once the theory is completed, you jump onto the boat for the skippers tickets practical.
We offer you the choice of using one of our boats (for free) or using your own boat to do your skippers ticket if you’re with a group. Perth Boat School have a few assessors and boats available at Woodman Point Boat Ramp, meaning that you can choose a time and date that is convenient to you. We sometimes run multiple Skippers ticket classes at the same time (multiple assessors on multiple boats) when we have large bookings, to keep the group sizes small so that you’re not sitting around waiting.
Less time sitting in a classroom, more time to spend on the water
Perth Boat School understands that you don’t want to be waiting around, sitting in a classroom listening to a trainer. If you have just become the proud owner of a new boat (or have a mate who is) and are keen to get out on the water, you can do your Skippers Ticket immediately. Book a course with us, (book here) and we will have someone meet you at the ramp when you first take it out for a spin.
Our experts at Perth Boat School will assist to launch the boat, show you the best way to set up and handle the ropes and all the other basics that you are going to need to know.
Once our assessor has “shown you the ropes” and you have reached a certain level of confidence, you will be assessed for your recreational skippers ticket “anywhere / anytime”. As soon as you complete the assessment, the Assessor will give you an interim RST certificate and you are free to take your boat out as a legal skipper – then and there, straight away.
This flexibility means that if you want a peaceful relaxing lesson, choose a time when there aren’t many boaters. Choose a weekday, a Sunday or early before work on a weekday before it gets too hot and windy. Or if you have left it to the last minute and just want to get it done, we can help you there too.
We have many Skippers Ticket Assessors and a range of boats, so if you book a date and time we will coordinate an assessor to meet you there.
All of this should only take about 2 hours if you have studied using the Free Skippers Ticket App by iiCAPTAIN and can handle your boat safely (it’s NOT a skill test – it’s more about boating safety).
Be a Better Boater
If you are wanting to learn more about how to handle your boat or how to take your boat to somewhere that you have never been, you should check out our range of boat handling courses. Although there is an hour of practical training included with the basic Skippers Ticket Combo, Perth Boat School provide a range of boat handling courses suitable for ANY level of experience on ANY type of boat. Whether you are a beginner and would like an expert to show you how to reverse a trailer, or have years of experience, remove the stress that comes with taking out your new boat for the first time and get one of Perth’s most experienced Captains to show you how it’s done.
